Taste of a Nation - June 2 2011 - i heart Olive Oil event

Once again we will be apart of a fantastic event for the non-profit organization Share our Strength. The No Kid Hungry campaign is focused on fighting childhood hunger. In today's society where diabetes is raising at an alarming rate; it is odd to hear about childhood hunger. Here are just a few statistics:

• More than 17 million kids in America are at risk of hunger. That's nearly 1 in 4.
• 15.5 million kids in America live in poverty.
• 20.1 million children benefit from SNAP (food stamps).
• 19 million kids get a free or reduced-price school lunch on an average school day.
• Only 9.4 million kids get a free or reduced-price school breakfast on an average school day.
• Just 1 in 6 eligible kids get free summer meals.

We participated in the Taste of a Nation 2011 West Palm Beach - April 13, 2011. The event was a blast - sublime restaurant samplings, tasty wines, a Battle of the Beard's competition between Chef Zach Bell (Cafe Boulud) and Chef Dean Max (3030 Ocean, 3800 Ocean).

I'd expected nothing less from the Share Our Strength once again at the upcoming Taste of a Nation 2011 - Fort Lauderdale this Thursday evening. June 2nd 2011.

We will be showcasing our "savory" olive oil desert - Angel Food cake marinated in olive oil with strawberry balsamic drizzle and an orange zest.

This really showcases our exclusive Portuguese extra virgin olive oil from Quinta de s. Vincente - Colheita Premium and the awesome Calolea - Strawberry balsamic vinegar.

The Colheita Premium extra virgin olive oil mixes the olive varietals of Cobrancosa, Arbequina, Verdeal and Cordovil. The oil's subtle peppery finish is nicely balanced by the sweetness of the strawberry balsamic while the orange zest help pull together the oil's tasty aroma.
